Brooklyn based fuzzy alt rock band, Glom, releases “Fungus”, the third single from their sophomore LP ‘Merit’ due out in the Fall. Fungus is about drowning in the aftermath of rejection. Unable to fully process what’s happened, it is easy to just move on without reflecting; however, that only allows for the same outcome to occur over and over again.
Fungus was written after a string of really bad weekends. Unlike other songs on “Merit,” Fungus has a notable lack of resolution which is meant to communicate the sort of ambivalence that extended solitude produces. The extended verse and lyrics create a loop that is meant to represent the cycle of repeated rejection and isolation. The tension builds until the chorus where it releases into an anthemic hook.
